Gr. 7 Social Studies: November

Presentations on a natural wonder of the world has been completed by all of the students.

The students have learned about climate zones, and vegetation zones and are now taking the information about the physical world and applying it to a brochure assignment.

Travel Brochure Assignment:

Students have chosen a place in the world to focus on for this assignment. They are designing a travel brochure to promote a natural adventure expedition in a selected region of the world that will attract an outdoor enthusiast. The students are first researching and completing an information organizer which includes geographic details about their chosen region that they have discovered. Once they have gathered the information they are illustrating what they have learned by creating a brochure that includes a map, images, geographic information, time zones, interesting facts and bibliography.
The class has been working on this during class time. They will have up to Dec.6 to work on it at school and then it will be homework if not completed after that class.

Quiz: A quiz on the physical world :continents, oceans, longitude, latitude, equator, prime meridian, international date line/ time zones, climate zone, and vegetation is on Nov. 29.

Mrs. Van Nice

Gr.7 Social Studies

World Geography: So far in our class the students have

  • had a discussion on the benefits of learning about the world, and geography
  • through a group activity (scavenger hunt) they discovered an overview of many places around the world that products are produced or distributed, as well as the birthplaces of members of the class, as well as places people travelled over the summer.
We are presently looking at different mapping elements:
  • longitude and latitude
  • time zones
  • different map projections compared to a globe
  • how to use an atlas vs. google earth
  • world continents and oceans
Every few classes we try to discuss events we have heard in the news that might relate to our study of the world.

Gr. 7 Art

Creativity and art skills are a buzz in my room. The 7's have been introduced to the expectations and helpful clean-up/ organization responsibilities. They have designed their own portfolios to house their work in progress. (These stay in the art room).

Line and Shading:
Students have been introduced to shading pencils. They are starting their first drawing assignment using texture, line, shade, and creativity.

Gr. 8 Art

The 8's are working on a portrait drawing with shading pencils. Students are working at looking at different proportions to help capture a similarity to the celebrity that they are drawing. They are also working on shading techniques.
